Teen accused of hacking Twitter keeps $ 3 million in Bitcoins

US police have detained 17-year-old Tampa resident Graham Clark, accusing him of involvement in the recent attack on the social network Twitter and fraudulent distribution of bitcoin. This was announced by the local television channel WFLA.
Recall that as a result of the Twitter hack on July 15, 45 accounts of famous personalities were compromised, including Elon Musk, Barack Obama, Bill Gates, and others. During the attack, the attacker arranged a fake distribution of cryptocurrency on their behalf, receiving about $ 120,000 in BTC.

Accusations
The Florida attorney has indicted Clarke on 30 charges, including involvement in organized fraud, 17 fraudulent electronic communications, and 11 identity misuse crimes. The victims of one of these crimes were at least 30 people who suffered damages of more than $ 100,000.
At the moment, Graham Clark is in custody.
Accomplices

In addition to him, the police detained two more suspects: 19-year-old British citizen Mason Sheppard and 22-year-old American Nima Fazeli. The former is accused of organized electronic fraud and money laundering, and the latter is accused of facilitating illegal gaining access to computer systems.
Both suspects have been arrested and their case is being examined at the federal level. Clark’s trial is under state law due to his minority. The defendant first appeared before a Florida court via video link on Saturday.
How did they hack accounts?

The company said that the attackers were able to take over the accounts thanks to a social engineering attack aimed at employees of the social network with access to internal systems. The platform later reported that the hackers compromised 45 celebrity accounts by resetting their password.
According to the latest official information, the hackers who attacked Twitter gained access to the internal tools of the social network through phishing aimed at employees’ mobile phones.
More than half of the bitcoins obtained by hacking celebrity accounts were passed through the ChipMixer and Wasabi Wallet mixers.
Other accusations against Graham Clark
In 2019, Clarke was involved in a criminal case in which 400 BTC (~ $ 4.47 million at the current exchange rate) and $ 15,000 in cash were seized from the young man. Later, the owner was returned the fiat money and 300 BTC.
